official taping policy
Here's my official taping policy (this one is slightly different from the one on my website at this time):
C-Lane Taping Policy as of 01/14/04
Online: I certainly welcome taping of my online broadcasts. (not much I can do to stop ya now, is there?) If you need help doing so, there is a program that is GREAT for this, it's called Ripcast...
http://www.xotech.com/ripcast/
It's used by a lot of people and, from what I've heard, works quite well. Feel free to trade online shows and/or offer them for download. Unless you are planning on posting the show to Archive.org (see below), Please don't waste your time converting them to SHN and what not, the SHOUTcast stream is MP3 quality anyway and there is no way you can get perfect quality. (I'm talking to you, Mr. Flac...) If you can find someone who would like to buy the recording, congratulations (I probably couldn't) but obviously, selling a recording of me playing copyrighted music is illegal...
Live/Offline: While my offline shows have been limited, I have done a couple and am planning on more. Both Audio and Video taping are permitted at live shows. Soundboard feeds are allowed provided that space on the board is available and you have the right connections (I cannot provide any.) Feel free to trade these as well at whatever quality you'd like and put them on etree or whatever. Again, be nice and don't try to rip off some stoner by selling it to him (no matter how much it may work.) On an added note, I wouldn't mind having a copy of your recording if it is good quality, especially video. E-mail me if you have such a treasure.
Archive.org: I have opted to have my shows available on Archive.org in their Live Music Archive section. For this purpose, shows may be submitted in SHN or FLAC formats only (As per LMA rules... MP3s are available but are generated by their site, not uploaded) Please feel free to upload audio from Live shows or Webcasts.
Again, Thanks to all my listeners and friends for your continued support...
Offical "Go Ahead" email
on 1/31/04 Chris emailed the archive:
"Hey etree!
My name is Chris. I love your Live Music Archive project and would love to be a part of it. I am a local musician from Orlando, FL and regularly play online shows as well as some scattered shows around town. I would love to include shows of mine on the archive. I can upload some shows but you can feel free to let others upload recordings. I have a growing fanbase who listens to my radio shows and they, on occasion, rip them to MP3s. MOst of them know me as "C-Lane" which is the name I perform under...
Thanks for takling your time to build this archive. I have downloaded some great shows and relived some wonderful concerts because of it. I fully support the project and would love to be a part of it.
Thanks a lot,
Chris Lane"
Official MP3 Go Ahead Email
"Hey guys, Chris here!
As a lot of my shows are streamed anyway, I am perfectly okay with having MP3s of my music available. I have seen certain shows offered like this and I like that way you are doing them."
